Note from the Author

Healing is the most beautiful thing you can do for yourself and your family! Realizing that you are worthy of a brighter future without concern about your past is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

I wrote this book to bring awareness to mental illness, addictions, and suicide. Without awareness, nothing will change, and without change, there is not much hope for those who struggle. Mental illness is a disease, much like cancer or heart disease. Instead of being recognized as such, it is treated as an outlier. It is not just the person with the mental illness and/or addiction that struggles; it is also the entire family.

Not only do I hope to promote awareness for those suffering, but I also hope to encourage anyone who is dealing with depression and low self-worth that you are worthy of chasing your dreams. Your past nor your family dictates your future. Do not allow fear to hold you back any longer.

In Better Hands, recounts my memories and a timeline constructed through my recollections and conversations with family members. I did consult with my brother and two aunts regarding some memories and timelines. All names have been changed to protect those who are not ready to share their story. In certain instances, revealing characteristics have also been removed. I altered some locations to protect those involved from being identified.

Please be advised that this story has triggers such as adoption, alcohol addiction, suicide, and death.
