Remembering my Mom on Mother's Day

My sweet Mom, you are loved, remembered, and missed more than I can ever put into words. Your unwavering love and instinct to care for others above yourself didn’t go unnoticed. I recognize that you always put me before yourself without hesitation. You loved hard, protected fiercely, and encouraged relentlessly. You left an irreplaceable void on the earth. Time will never lessen the sadness or ache of having you with us.

Your memory is still living strong in our family. I share stories with my kids about the grandma they didn’t get to meet and how your laugh could be heard throughout the entire house. The fact that you could cook the absolute best meals without breaking a sweat. Your gift of sewing produced some of the most beautiful, intricate quilts I have ever seen. The blue dove and the multi-color stacked flower quilts were works of art.

Your amazing, spectacular (every adjective that you can imagine) holiday meal is still fixed twice a year. Your legacy has been passed on to both of my kids. I’m no longer alone in the kitchen; both are eager to help. Avery loves to fix your dressing and will stop doing anything to help when it’s time. She says that is her favorite dish at dinner; does that sound familiar? Neither child loves potato salad as I do, but don’t worry, I am still working on it.

Even though I miss you so much, and this world seems less bright, I am grateful that you are in Heaven with Mamaw, Roger, and many of your brothers and sisters. It was time for you to rest and be with those you missed. Until I see you again, I will continue to talk about you and honor you as if you were here.

Happy Mother’s Day! I love you always!
